The HeartStart Infant/Child SMART Pad is specifically designed for use on children under the age of eight who weigh less than 25 kilograms (55 pounds). For the safety of infants and children, these pads reduce shock energy from 150 to 50 Joules. Easy identification is made possible by the clear teddy bear icon.

The SMART Biphasic Low Energy 150-Joule shock has demonstrated its effectiveness in published studies of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests. Only HeartStart is approved for use on both children and adults. It is recommended that these SMART Pads be used in accordance with international resuscitation guidelines as they are acceptable, safe, and effective, and the intervention of choice. A SMART Pad can detect whether it has been removed from the cartridge and placed on the patient's chest, ensuring synchronized voice prompts.
