Founded in 1891, RLSS UK has a proud history of water safety education. Our mission is clear: to save lives by being the leader in lifesaving, lifeguarding, and water safety education. Through our comprehensive training programmes, educational resources, and community initiatives, we equip people of all ages and backgrounds with the skills and knowledge needed to stay safe around water.
Our Impact:
- Drowning Prevention: On average, RLSS UK lifeguards prevent one likely in-water accident every six minutes. As the leading experts in water safety, RLSS UK qualified over 45,000 lifeguards with the internationally recognised National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) in 2025.
- Education and Training: In 2025, over 2. 4million children received water safety education during Drowning Prevention Week. Additionally, over 8,000 children completed our class-based Water Smart Schools programme in 2024.
- Community Outreach: Nearly 280 RLSS UK affiliated clubs across the UK and Ireland provide lifesaving activities. Our awards and programmes, such as Rookie Lifeguard and Save a Baby’s Life, teach crucial skills to over 200,000 people yearly, empowering communities to act confidently in emergencies.
