Founded in 1891, the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) has a proud history of water safety education. Our mission is clear: to lead the way in lifesaving and lifeguarding, ensuring everyone can safely enjoy being in, on, or near water. Through our comprehensive training programs, educational resources, and community initiatives, we equip people of all ages with the skills and knowledge needed to stay safe around water.
Our Impact:
- Drowning Prevention: On average, RLSS UK lifeguards prevent one likely in-water accident every six minutes. Our impact is wide-reaching and essential, with over 46,000 lifeguards qualifying yearly.
- Education and Training: In 2024, over 1.25 million children received water safety education during our Drowning Prevention Week. Our training programs, including the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ), are recognised internationally and remain the gold standard in water safety education.
- Community Outreach: Our awards and programs, such as Rookie Lifeguard and Save a Baby’s Life, teach essential lifesaving skills to over 200,000+ people yearly, empowering communities to act confidently in emergencies.
