The shadow rescue manikin has proven to be an innovative and useful tool in on-going lifeguard training. Case history shows that vigilance is difficult to maintain and by providing a training tool, the purpose is intended to increase standards of lifeguarding and create a safer swimming environment.

In simple terms, the manikin replicates the common shape of either a child on their side or on their back at the bottom of the pool. The manikin is self-weighted and when in place it gives a similar appearance to that of a body. The manikins can be used to confirm water clarity and visibility, for example, during lifeguard training scenarios. The training scenario will involve the candidate spotting the location of the shadow manikin and then performing the necessary recovery.

When used in a training session, the Trainer or nominated person will roll out the manikin on the bottom of the pool. The design of the manikin enables the Instructor to deposit the manikin easily and covertly if necessary. The training scenario will involve the candidate spotting the location of the shadow manikin and recovering it.
